TransPlaMed - Translational Manufacturing Platform Medical Innovation
(Innovation through universities and research institutions MWK)
In cooperation with the Institute for Microtechnology (IMT, Technical University of Braunschweig), the University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HAWK), the Fraunhofer Institute for Surface Engineering and Thin Films (IST) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Toxicology and Experimental Medicine (ITEM), the Hannover Medical School (MHH) is developing a manufacturing platform for medical innovations as part of the "TransPlaMed" funding project (NBank).
Medical technology innovations by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often fail due to the implementation of special processes that are necessary for the production of the medical product and thus do not make the transfer from basic research to the market. On the other hand, expensive machines in universities are underutilised. This is why the "TransPlaMed" platform aims to optimise the technology and knowledge transfer of special processes in medical technology. The project combines business education, economics and technical sciences in the field of tension between freedom of research and resource efficiency with the aim of lowering innovation barriers in medical technology.
