Publication discounts / publishing agreements
Here you will find the publication discounts currently agreed with publishers and the publishing agreements for our authors at the MHH.
In many cases, the publication costs are already included in the agreements. However, if the publication costs are covered by central funds, the MHH must be named as the first affiliation of the (submitting/corresponding) author responsible for the invoice.
To find out which publishers publish individual journals, you can use the search function in the Electronic Journals Library (EZB), for example.
Initial information on the agreements that will apply in 2025 can already be found on the intranet.
For publishing in this Gold OA journal of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) until the end of 2024, you will receive a 15% discount on the APC. It will be activated after selecting MHH as your affiliated institution.
This option is available through the MHH Library's participation in the GASCO consortium.
American Chemical Society (ACS)
In the journal of the American Chemical Society (ACS) you publish Open Access free of charge in the years 2023 - 2025.

See general information about the publishing process here: The Publishing Process (acs.org)
This option is available through the participation of the MHH library in the Lower Saxony ACS consortium.
With this publisher you can publish open access (Hybrid Open Access) in the licensed journals of the BMJ Standard Collection free of charge. If you search for our university here, all currently usable journal titles will be displayed. Please assign yourself directly to the MHH when submitting your manuscript. After "accepted", the publisher expects you to enter our institutional ring gold number (9177).
The journals The BMJ and BMJ Case Reports are not part of this agreement!
This option is made possible by the library's participation in the BMJ consortium (Publish&Read).
As part of our Publish&Read Agreement, you (as a corresponding/submitting author) publish in most journals (hybrid and Gold OA) free of charge. A list of journals covered by this agreement and further information can be found here.
As part of the DEAL agreement with Elsevier, the library will centrally finance the costs for your open access publications in all journals covered by the agreement from 16 November 2023 (acceptance date). This list includes both the hybrid journals (Core Hybrid) and gold (Core Gold) Elsevier journals, as well as the titles of the Cell Press and The Lancet brands (CP/TL Hybrid, The Lancet Gold, Cell Press Gold and The Lancet Gold). The agreement does not cover the titles of some journals held by specialist societies.
Please ensure that you are correctly assigned to Medizinische Hochschule Hannover / Hannover Medical School during the submission process. Further information about the DEAL agreements can be found on the MPDL website.
If you publish in the Gold Open Access journals of this publisher, you will receive a 10% discount on the publication costs if the costs appear on the central collective invoice to the university library.
When submitting your manuscript, please already select our university in the invoice section. If your university affiliation is confirmed to FRONTIERS by the MHH library, your publication costs will be assigned to the central collective invoice (after your agreement).
As an MHH author, you can publish open access in all hybrid journals with no additional cost and in 16 Gold Open Access journals with IOP Publishing (duration 2022 - 2024) free of charge. Here is the list of appropriate journals (Lists A, B, and D ONLY): https://publishingsupport.iopscience.iop.org/questions/eligible-journals-transformative-agreements/.
Based on your affiliation statement, IOP Publishing will recognise you as eligible and contact you to advise you of the agreement described here. Submission assistance here: https://publishingsupport.iopscience.iop.org/questions/submit-under-a-transformative-agreement-guide/
MHH Library's participation in the German National Consortium's IOP Transformation Agreement (through TIB) provides these options. More information from IOP on this: https://publishingsupport.iopscience.iop.org/questions/open-access-germany-tib/

For publications in MDPI-Journals, the library has agreed with the Open Access publisher on centralised billing for our authors.
When submitting the manuscript, please select our university in the Institutional Account Program workflow. During the submission process within the MHH campus, the publication is automatically assigned to the MHH with a 10% discount as long as you do not use vouchers for billing.
In the NATURE hybrid journals you can publish your manuscript in open access without paying the additional costs (based on the DEAL with Springer Nature).
Only fees for additional publication options are charged separately (exceeding page charges, colour fees etc.) and paid by you as the author.
Here the publisher provides you with information and a current title list of the journals.
The participation of the MHH library in the Nature Transformative Agreement for Germany makes this option possible.
In 2023 and 2024 you can publish free of charge as a corresponding author of MHH in all journals of the Public Library of Science (PLOS).
Please observe the MHH affiliation and publication policy, therefore select Hannover Medical School from the drop-down menu and use your university email address with ...@mh-hannover.de. Please also include the Ringgold number of MHH.
Please select in the payment details: My institution pays all or part of the fee (In German: Meine Institution zahlt die gesamte oder einen Teil der Gebühr.). The library will take care of the blanket check and invoice processing for Open Access publishing and pay the total costs.
If you still receive the invoice personally after "accepted", there was an error in the submission process.
If so, please contact us or contact PLOS directly (institutionalbilling@plos.org oder partnerships@plos.org). Your invoice will then be assigned to the consortium contract.
The offer is made possible by the library's participation in a national consortium agreement.
