Welcome! Almost 600 young people began their studies in one of ten degree programmes at Hannover Medical School (MHH) at the beginning of October. The largest group, 320 first-year students, began their studies in human medicine in the HannibaL model programme, including 60 students who received a place through the "country doctor quota". 82 young people are beginning their studies in dentistry, and 35 in midwifery. In addition, 90 young people have taken up a master's degree in biochemistry, biomedicine and biomedical data science at MHH, and 57 a doctoral programme at the Hannover Biomedical Research School (HBRS).

Best wishes, encouragement and courage for the start of their studies

This week, MHH welcomed its new students in the two medical state examination programmes and in the bachelor's programme in midwifery science with a varied first semester week.

MHH Dean of Studies for Medicine and Bachelor's/Master's Programmes, Professor Ingo Just, introduced the newcomers to the MHH as a maximum care clinic with its main focuses in clinical practice and research. "The special thing about our model medical programme is that we teach you in the running of a hospital from the first semester onwards," said Just, pointing out the great advantage over the standard medical programmes. He also addressed the challenges in the healthcare system and called for a great willingness to learn and think critically.

In the dentistry programme, MHH Dean of Studies Professor Harald Tschernitschek welcomed the students who are studying according to the new licensing regulations for dentists (ZApprO). This has been implemented at MHH since October 2021, and the study of dentistry is currently being conducted for three cohorts according to the old, new and transferred from the old to the new ZApprO. "You have the opportunity to help shape this process and get involved. Get involved and talk to us if something isn't going well or you're having problems," Prof. Tschernitschek encouraged them.

Dr Marion Charlotte Renneberg, Vice President of the Lower Saxony Medical Association, who came to the MHH to welcome the new medical students, also offered plenty of congratulations, encouragement and courage for the start of their studies. She also studied at MHH and "enjoyed an excellent education". Finally, Professor Nadine Schlüter, Director of the Department of Operative Dentistry, Periodontology and Preventive Dentistry, and Professor Karin Weißenborn, Senior Physician at the Department of Neurology, provided insights into their professional careers and encouraged the new students to find their own path and to seek direct dialogue with their professors if they had any questions or encountered any problems.

90 new Master's students in bioscience programmes welcomed

In addition to the first-year students, MHH also welcomed 90 new Master's students: 24 young people began their Master's studies in Biochemistry, 30 in Biomedicine, 12 in Biomedical Data Science and 24 in Public Health. Students also started doctoral programmes at the Hannover Biomedical Research School: 21 students are enrolled in the PhD programme Molecular Medicine, 20 in the PhD programme Infection Biology and 16 in the PhD programme Regenerative Sciences.
