Performance features and equipment
The clinic's care mandate ranges from infants to adolescents (end of puberty). The treatment of newborns and premature babies and their intensive care as well as the perinatological cooperation with the gynaecological clinic is carried out in a Perinatal Center Level 1. In addition, a general pediatric ward with a pulmonological focus (20 beds) and various outpatient clinics belong to the clinic.
There is a close cooperation between the Clinic of Pediatric Pneumology, Allergology and Neonatology with the consultation services from the fields of pediatric surgery, pediatric cardiology, pediatric neurology, pediatric nephrology, neurosurgery, oral surgery (cleft lip and palate), ENT (cochlear implantation), dermatology and ophthalmology. The departments of microbiology, laboratory and radiology are located in the same building and can be reached on site around the clock. In addition to the routine laboratory of the Children's Center, which is designed for child-specific questions, there is also a separate research and special diagnostic laboratory.
Besides the care of the emergency outpatient clinic and general pediatric care, the care of children with pulmonological diseases (e.g. cystic fibrosis), allergological (e.g. asthma) or immunological disorders (e.g. immune deficiencies, HIV) is a special focus. Furthermore, we also care for children with rheumatic diseases.
At the clinic for pediatric pneumology and neonatology research is carried out at the highest level. The focus is particularly on research of the mechanisms of allergies, in the field of cystic fibrosis (molecular basis, new therapeutic approaches) as well as in the research of respiratory regulation disorders.
