Contents of the nutritional counselling for cystic fibrosis:
- Digestive situation with and without cystic fibrosis
- Information on age-appropriate nutrition (from infants to adolescents)
- Kitchen technology options for energy enrichment
- Dietary product information about possibilities for energy enrichment
- Age-appropriate eating education
- The role and functioning of the digestive enzymes
- Being able to estimate the fat content of one's own eating habits in order to be able to optimally dose enzyme preparations (estimate: approx. 2000-3000 IU lipase / g dietary fat)
- Instructions for keeping nutritional and enzyme logs with subsequent evaluation as the basis for a nutritional consultation
- Dietary product selection with additional night tube feeding (PEG)
In connection with the following comorbidities, nutritional therapy for cystic fibrosis must be adjusted:
- Cystic fibrosis and intestinal obstruction (meconium ileus)
- Cystic fibrosis and diabetes mellitus (in-patient training for initial setting of insulin)
- Cystic fibrosis and cirrhosis of the liver
- Cystic fibrosis and condition before and after lung and liver transplantation
