Our Center for Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis was founded in 1972 and is one of the largest in Germany. We are currently the only center in Germany to offer the entire spectrum of cystic fibrosis care - from comprehensive diagnostics (genetics, sweat test, electrophysiological examinations such as intestinal short-circuit current measurement (ICM) and measurement of the nasal potential difference (nPD)), to transplantation (lung, liver). We regularly treat approx. 200 patients under the age of 18 years with cystic fibrosis and cystic fibrosis-like disorders.
A smooth transition to age-appropriate care by our Internal Medicine colleagues (for our patients over the age of 18) is ensured by a close cooperation with the Adult Cystic Fibrosis Center as a transition outpatient clinic.
The center was awarded the Christiane Herzog Prize in 2005 for special achievements in patient care and has been awarded the "Certificate PLUS" as a recognized facility for children and adolescents with cystic fibrosis by the patient self-help organization MUKO e.V..
We participate in the quality assurance measures and the benchmarking project of the MUKO e.V. for continuous quality improvement. We are a member of the European study network for cystic fibrosis and regularly participate in the latest drug and other European and worldwide studies.
