Working Group: Ethics and Theory of Digitalization in Healthcare
Institute for Ethics, History and Philosophy of Medicine
The Ethics and Theory of Digitalization in Healthcare Working Group conducts research into the ethical implications of the digital transformation in medicine and the healthcare professions. The central points of reference for medical ethics research are the challenges for informed consent, autonomy and professional concepts posed by new digital technologies.
The working group's research focuses on clinical decision support systems, the use of artificial intelligence in medical diagnostics and extended reality applications. Members of the working group are also interested in the methodological development of digital bioethics with regard to both digitality as an object of ethical research and the use of digital methods to research ethical issues.
The working group works in an interdisciplinary way at the interfaces between medicine, ethics and computer science. Empirical methods are also combined with normative-ethical approaches.
