History of the Premises

The first clinical magnetic resonance tomograph in a German university hospital was installed in rooms 1270-1350 on level U0 of building K7 of the MHH in 1983 under Prof. Dr. Dr. H. Hundeshagen, then Director of the Department of Nuclear Medicine.

After the installation of a follow-up unit in 1985, the MRT area is operated until 1996, until the MRI is transferred to the Institutes of Diagnostic and Interventional Radiology and Neuroradiology.

The rooms of the former MRI area in K7 were subsequently unused until they were renovated after the new clinic director Prof. Dr. Frank Bengel took office and the new Center for Preclinical Molecular Imaging was opened in mid-2012.

A plaque in the entrance area of the new center reminds us of the history of the rooms. A section of wall from the former MRI area has been preserved there, on which Prof. Hundeshagen signed together with some celebrities who were also examined using the then unique MRI technology.
