Our valued colleague and long-time employee of HTTG Surgery, Dr Andres Hilfiker, passed away on 21.09.2024 at the age of 67 after a long, serious illness.

The death of Dr Andres Hilfiker fills us with great dismay and sadness. Our deepest sympathy goes to his family.

Dr Andres Hilfiker studied zoology at the University of Zurich where he obtained his doctorate. After two postdoctoral phases in Zurich and Atlanta/USA, he moved to the MHH in 1997 as Head of the Molecular Cardiology Laboratory in the Department of Cardiology and Angiology. He then worked as a senior scientist at Develogen AG in Göttingen from 2002 to 2003. Since 2005, he has had a lasting influence on the ‘Tissue Engineering’ department at LEBAO as coordinator and head of the working group.

In Andres Hilfiker, LEBAO and HTTG Surgery have lost an excellent scientist, an extremely committed and valued colleague and, above all, a friend of many years. As head of the working group, Andres Hilfiker was not only committed to his colleagues from a professional perspective, but also always promoted social interaction. He enjoyed the utmost respect throughout the MHH as a scientist and as a person. Without him, significant scientific findings and developments in HTTG surgery at the MHH would have been unthinkable.

The HTTG Surgery and the LEBAO are deeply indebted to Andres Hilfiker and will always honour his memory.
