Isolation and cultivation of primary cholangiocytes from different species

In this project, the workgroup aims to establish and characterize primary cholangiocyte cultures from murine, porcine and human extra- and intrahepatic tissue. Furthermore, threedimensional cholangiocyte organoids are being established in order to study mechanisms of cholangiocyte injury in hypothermic and/or hypoxic conditions in vitro. Long-term aim of the project is to generate and expand cholangiocyte (organoid) cultures for therapeutic approaches in experimental models of ischemia-/reperfusion induced cholangiopathy.
