Since experimental animal models try to reflect diseases and modes of therapy in human beings it should be human and not veterinarian pathologists who perform the histologic analysis. Whereas human pathology is experienced with human diseases generally there is no familiarity with veterinary diseases, which must be discriminated as background nuisance from the specific effects of the experimental model. Therefore, xPa also covers the veterinary branch and macroscopical analysis including necropsy is done by a veterinarian pathologist.

Dr.med.vet. Silke Glage: represents portal of xPa . Scientists seeking advice with regard to analysis of animal studies address her. The support ranges from advice how to collect and to store tissue samples to training in macroscopic diagnoses of autopsy of laboratory animals.

PD Dr. med. Guntram Büsche: gives advice on tissue banking and available sophisticated methods of tissue analysis (cryostat slicing, immunohistochemistry, laser microdissection, electron microcopy, tissue microarrays and RT-PCR from fixed tissues). If needed, training and support are given in the microscopical analysis of tissue sections by Dr. Büsche who will involve other organ specialists if necessary.

Dr. rer.nat. Sandra Ließem:  takes care of routine fixation, embedding and stains including immunohistochemistry, which are done in the Institute of Pathology.

Smaller series of immunohistochemistry are prepared by the group in the Institute of Pathology, larger series will require technical support from the cooperating group. Henriette Christgen: takes care of routine fixation, embedding and stains including immunohistochemistry. Smaller series of immunohistochemistry are done by Henriette Christgen. Documentation and storage of paraffin embedded tissues as well as tissue banking of fresh frozen tissues is done by her also.
